The U.S. Government Contracting Market

The U.S. Government is the world’s largest buyer of goods and services, spending hundreds of billions of dollars each year with businesses, both large and small. Getting your company on the list of preferred vendors for federal contract consideration involves research and work. However, your efforts may be rewarded with potentially very lucrative contracts. Even if you are a small business, you can still be a big player in this game. In fact, the Federal Government set-asides 23% of government spending to small companies.

GSA Contracts

Getting startedwith the GSA can be worth your while, if you want to take advantage of the millions of dollars awarded in government contracts. GSA and other agencies have made working with the federal government much easier than in years past.

GSA now does much of their contracting through electronic, computerized systems. GSA has also revised and streamlined their procurement processes- and that helps both the contractor and the federal government construction projects.

What to do after receiving a contract

Once your company has won a federal government contract, the real work begins. If you're contracting with an agency for the first time, research its history of dealing with federal government contractors and see if you can find contractors willing to talk about their experiences.

Before you start work, check your contract carefully for unexpected or unusual requirements.
